Build an App Using the Twilio API & Win a Netbook!

Whether you've already built something that uses Twilio, or you've just discovered our simple and powerful API for voice-enabling your applications to make and receive phone calls, we hope you'll enter to win a Netbook - we're giving one away every week!

Every Monday we announce a category to help guide your ideas for what to build, and you have one week (or sometimes two) to build and submit your project.  The day after the deadline, we'll announce the winner and send them a Netbook, and any other prizes from our contest partners.

March 8th -21st, 2010: Phone Controlled Multi-Player Games

Just in time for the South By Southwest, the annual geek fest in Austin, Texas, we're announcing a contest category that has been a hot topic - phone controlled multiplayer gaming.  You'll have until Sunday, March 21st to submit your application.

Explore how voice and SMS can be utilized to help people cooperate and collaborate in a mobile gaming experience, no matter what kind of phone they have.  Because Twilio uses the keypress, voice recording, and SMS capabilities of the phone no smartphone is required to get in the game.

If you are a Twitter user, you can receive automated voice calls for wait times at Washington State Ferries terminals and northbound Canadian border crossings by sending a direct message to @wsdot. You can send a direct message either from Twitter or from your phone via SMS. Include the terminal or border route id, and the phone number you would like to receive the call back on, and we'll send it to you.

GroupCall allows twitter users to host and manage a group conference call with a few simple clicks. Designed for group instruction, where one user speaks and the audience comments/participates via twitter. The call owners can unmute other participants if desired.

Week #2 - Music Monday by Mike Ivanov

Music Monday is the long-running tradition of posting your favorite songs on Twitter so that others can discover interesting new music.  My app lets you listen to tweets that contain MP3s.  You can skip songs you don't like so much, and it keeps a list of everything that was played and what you liked.
